Benedetti Life with a Fashion Show and Matea Benedetti speaker at the informal meeting to the European Union Competitiveness Ministers

The theme of the meeting under the heading “Building a Green, Creative and Smart Future” was based on two priorities of the Slovenian Presidency: the transition to a circular economy and creative industries as a generator of added value in the economy.

In this context, our CEO Matea Benedetti presented Benedetti Life successes, as well as the biodegradable, animal free and circular economy experience, produced with innovative textiles.

Matea explained that fashion is much more than a beautiful garment. It’s a serious business, and one of the most complex and largest industries in the world.

"As a designer I lost trust in suppliers. That’s why for me today sustainability has become not just a creative challenge, but an issue of trust.

The cost of being sustainable is that you need more time, more money and more knowledge. But fashion will never be the same again.

Right now is the last moment in history when changing the course of the fashion industry can mean saving our lives and species on an unimaginable scale. It is really about life itself."

Textile has been identified as one of the priority sectors in which the EU can pave the way towards a carbon-neutral, circular economy. The forthcoming EU Strategy for Sustainable Textiles will address the opportunities for the EU textile industry and its structural weaknesses, for example, textile waste and textile recycling.

So we were more then honoured to have this great opportunity to talk to the EU ministers and show how we think and work in a sustainable way and what challenges still we have.
